How CBCT Works

A cone beam CT scan rotates around your head in 15–20 seconds, capturing hundreds of images that are reconstructed into a detailed 3D model. Unlike traditional 2D X-rays, CBCT shows depth, allowing Dr. Lewis to visualize anatomy from every angle before treatment begins.

  • Quick scan: 15–20 seconds standing or sitting — no enclosed tube like a medical CT.
  • Lower radiation: Uses significantly less radiation than a hospital CT scan.
  • Immediate results: 3D images are available within minutes for same-day diagnosis.
  • Eliminates referrals: In-house CBCT means no separate imaging appointment elsewhere.

CBCT FAQs

Is a CBCT scan safe?

Yes. CBCT uses significantly less radiation than a medical CT and is considered very safe for dental diagnostic use.

How long does the scan take?

The actual scan takes only 15–20 seconds. The entire appointment including positioning is typically under 5 minutes.

Does insurance cover CBCT?

Many dental insurance plans cover CBCT when medically necessary (implant planning, impacted teeth, etc.). We verify coverage before scanning.

Why not just use regular X-rays?

Traditional X-rays show only 2D views. CBCT reveals 3D anatomy including bone depth, nerve paths, and sinus positions — critical for surgical planning.
